Jib cranes

Also known as cantilever or wall-mounted cranes, these cranes feature a design similar to workshop jib cranes. The crane arm with a hoist is cantilever-mounted on one end truck, which moves along a runway installed vertically on the wall of a hall.

Applications:

  • Transporting loads in a limited wall-side area of buildings,
  • Servicing workstations or machines operating in cycles or processes,
  • Lifting and handling loads at various workstations, depending on current needs.

Cantilever cranes, also known as jib cranes, are another popular type of crane. They are widely used in industrial plants across different sectors, particularly for transporting loads between workstations and auxiliary transport within a designated section of the hall.

The structure of jib cranes combines the design features of both overhead cranes and workshop jib cranes, offering a unique blend of their technical advantages. The framework of the jib crane is based on a support beam in the form of a cantilever. This cantilever is mounted on a mechanism with a travel system that moves along a runway installed on a vertical side wall. The jib crane’s runway is positioned below the travel line of overhead cranes and above the machinery installed on the hall floor.

HAK manufactures jib cranes tailored to the specific requirements of their applications. We handle the entire process, from design and production to installation and commissioning, including UDT (Office of Technical Inspection) approval. We also provide maintenance and repairs for jib cranes. To ensure regulatory compliance, we affix the CE marking to our devices and include a Declaration of Conformity.

Jib Crane and Its Capabilities

A modern jib crane combines the features of both an overhead crane and a workshop jib crane. Equipped with a hoist, it can lift loads of various sizes to the required height and then move along the runway with the load. This allows the jib crane to cover multiple workstations along the wall of a production hall. An additional benefit is the possibility of mounting several jib cranes on a single runway installed on the hall wall, and integrating their operation with other machines and equipment.

Due to the structure of jib cranes and the placement of their runways, the use of this type of device should be considered at the design stage of the hall and its equipment. Planning the installation of a jib crane in advance helps avoid later modifications to the lifting equipment or construction work related to the runway.

Selecting a jib crane should be based on factors similar to those considered when choosing an overhead crane or workshop jib crane. It is important to take into account the crane’s travel speed, lifting speed, lifting height, and the length of the cantilever on which the hoist is mounted. Additionally, the intensity of jib crane operation and the external dimensions of the loads being lifted should also be considered.
