Turntables

A turntable is a type of lifting device used for rotating vehicles, most commonly rail vehicles, or shifting them from one track to another. Railway turntables are typically used in places with complex tram or railway traffic arrangements—such as depots, locomotive sheds, and facilities for the production or repair of rail vehicles of various types. Turntables are installed at track crossings and can be operated either remotely or manually. They greatly facilitate maneuvering and the execution of maintenance and assembly work.

HAK, as a comprehensive provider of gantry rail systems, offers advanced solutions for railway, tramway, and wagon turntables. We provide complete turntable solutions tailored to specific facilities and applications—from design through production, delivery, and installation, to the commissioning of the turntable at its place of use. We organize UDT (Technical Inspection Authority) acceptance of the equipment, offer training on turntable operation, and provide warranty and post-warranty support.

All turntables comply with the requirements of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC—compliance is confirmed by CE marking on the turntable and the inclusion of a Declaration of Conformity.

Railway Turntables and the Organization of Rail Vehicle Traffic

A turntable is a device used to change the direction of a rail vehicle by rotating the platform. This type of design significantly simplifies the operation, reducing the time needed to complete it.

When designing railway and tram turntables, it is essential to consider the correctness of their operation, as well as their strength and functional properties. Equally important is the proper adaptation of the device's structure to the foundations or ground on which it is installed. This includes considering the weight of the vehicles that the turntable will handle.

Railway turntables are usually an integral part of the permanent track system, and the spacing between the turntable rails is adjusted to match the gauge of the existing access tracks. The design of the turntable also accounts for the possibility of wheeled vehicles passing over the surface without compromising its functionality.

In addition to wagon turntables, we also offer a range of other solutions for servicing rail vehicles—wagons and locomotives. We design and manufacture railway and wagon shunters, railway turntables for wagons, and special technical solutions used in the production and repair of rail vehicle components. Our experience and team of specialists from various fields allow us to offer solutions suitable for many technological processes.
