Rail Systems on Steel Foundations - Installation
The tolerances required for rail installation are significantly narrower than those for mounting gantry beams. Rails can and should be joined by welding them into a continuous line using specified methods different from those used for welding structural steel. Specialized knowledge of installation techniques guarantees effective, trouble-free use of rail systems for many years. Methods of Elastic Rail Fastening on Steel Foundations
The diagram below illustrates two main methods for fastening rails to a steel foundation:
- The first method (on the left) uses clamps fixed to the foundation with bolts passing through holes drilled in the girder flange or through threaded studs welded to the girder.
- The second method involves using clamps fixed to the foundation by welding the lower part of the clamp.
An alternative, depending on the environment, wheel loads, and temperature, is to use a system without an elastic pad.
